AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against Clark Atlanta University on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium. GSW scored four of the opening game's final five runs to pull away, 7-4. Clark Atlanta was held to one unearned run in the nightcap as GSW rolled, 12-1.

The Hurricanes improved to 3-0 this spring while CAU dropped to 1-3 heading into Sunday's series finale at 1 p.m.

GAME 1: GSW 7, CLARK ATLANTA 4

GSW hurlers racked up 13 strikeouts in the opener, but a few defensive miscues kept Clark Atlanta within striking distance.

The Hurricanes jumped on CAU with a pair of runs in the first added a score in the fourth.

Southwestern starting pitcher Earl Dupree exited after five innings with a 3-0 lead, having struck out eight and walked one, and that score held until the seventh when the Panthers tied the game with the aid of two GSW errors. The Hurricanes quickly answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame as Evan Alderman belted a RBI-triple to center field to score Zach Barron and the next batter, Alex Kranick, brought home Alderman with a double down the right-field line.

After CAU got one of the runs back in the eighth, Southwestern pushed across two more in the bottom half thanks to a pair of hit batters, two walks and a wild pitch.

Justin Barnes (1-0) followed Dupree with two innings of work and all three runs allowed while he was on the hill were unearned. Kyle Spinks threw the final two frames and picked up his first save of the season.

CAU starter Jezreel Moore went seven innings, allowed eight hits and four earned runs, while striking out three.
