PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The eighth-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a 287 (-1) on Tuesday to finish in second place at the 14-team Argonaut Invitational hosted by the University of West Florida at the par-72, 6,903-yard Pensacola Country Club. All 14 participating schools were ranked inside the top 50 of NCAA Division II according to the latest Scoreboard computer rankings powered by clippd, including six of the top 10. GSW had three golfers finish in the top 10 of the 81-player field. 

Only four rounds of 66 were posted by individuals over the tournament and GSW's Joao Costa had two of them. Costa fired 66s in each of his two rounds on Monday to take a one-shot lead into the final day. He struggled in the final round to maintain his top spot and dropped to fourth place where he tied teammate Felipe Gomez. Costa opened the event on fire, starting birdie, par, eagle, birdie, birdie. Conversely, Gomez closed out the week a par machine as he posted 13 consecutive pars to start Round 3 before dropping a birdie on the 14th hole. Gomez has finished in the top five on the leaderboard in four of the six events he has played for the Hurricanes and remains the Peach Belt Conference scoring leader this school year. Nicolas Escobar posted his team-leading fifth top 10 finish with rounds of 70-71-70. Escobar sank an eagle in Round 2. Davis Aaron made the Hurricanes largest jump on the final day, moving up seven slots on the leaderboard with a 2-under 70, which placed him at 38th overall as he finished the event 1-over. Sam Brown tied for 55th and Mateo Quiroga, who played as an individual, finished 62nd.    

The tournament host, No. 2 West Florida, won the event with a score of 34-under par. Per Ecklund from UWF won the individual title by six strokes with a 16-under 200. 

The Hurricanes will now prepare for postseason play and the Peach Belt Conference Championship beginning Friday, April 18 in Augusta, Ga., at Forest Hills Golf Club.
