AUGUSTA, Ga. — The fifth-ranked Georgia Southwestern State University men's golf team posted a 4-over-par 292 in the final round of the Peach Belt Conference Championship at the par-72, 7,086-yard Forest Hills Golf Club on Sunday to drop two spots in the standings and finish in fifth place out of eight teams with a 3-over par. Nicolas Escobar and Felipe Gomez earned all-tournament honors by finishing in the top five of the 40-player field. 

Escobar led the Hurricanes with a 4-under 212 to finish in third place overall. His 66 in Round 2 was the lowest round of the tournament. Escobar trailed the leader by a stroke heading into the final day. It was his sixth Top 10 finish of the season and the 14th of his career. Gomez was the tournament's big mover on Sunday as he climbed 11 spots after firing a 67 in the final round, which was the lowest score of the day, to finish tied for fourth at 3-under overall. It was his fifth Top 5 finish in seven events played this season. Gomez birdied three of his last six holes in Round 3 while carding six birdies over his final 18. Joao Costa tied for 21st place with a 4-over 221. Sam Brown and Davis Aaron tied for 31st place at 9-over. 

15th-ranked University of South Carolina Beaufort won the event with a 13-under. Erik Rengardt from USCB won the individual title with a 9-under 207, three strokes ahead of Erik Olin from the University of South Carolina Aiken in second place. 

The Hurricanes now await an invitation to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional which will be revealed on Friday. Regional play begins Thursday, May 8.
