NORMAN, Okla. — NCAA Division II PING All-Region honorees were announced on Wednesday afternoon by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Players across eight regions earned all-region honors in 2025. Felipe Gomez, Joao Costa and Nicolas Escobar from Georgia Southwestern State University were named to the NCAA Division II PING Southeast All-Region team.
Gomez, the 2024-25 Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, earned his first all-region award. He joined the GSW golf team for the spring semester and made an immediate impact, winning the Lincoln Memorial University Spring Kickoff in his first tournament with three rounds in the 60s. Gomez played in all eight events this spring for the Hurricanes, finishing in the top five on five occasions with a PBC-best 70.58 stroke average. A native of Santander, Spain, Gomez is currently the top-ranked golfer in the southeast region and No. 4 in the nation according to the NCAA Division II computer rankings by Scoreboard. He has played 18 of his 24 rounds at or under par. Gomez will represent GSW at the NCAA Division II National Championships next week in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Costa, a junior from Carcavelos, Portugal, earned his first all-region award. Costa finished the season tied for eighth in the PBC in scoring average (71.8) through 32 rounds and 11 events. He was the PBC Golfer of the Week on March 31. Costa had one tournament win and finished in the top five of three events in 2024-25. He closed out the season ranked No. 35 in NCAA Division II.
Escobar, a senior from Guayaquil, Ecuador, earned his second all-region selection (2022-23). He matched Gomez with six top 10 finishes this season to lead the Hurricanes. Escobar posted a scoring average of 72.06 over 32 rounds in 2024-25 and earned his second all-conference award at GSW. He completed his final collegiate season ranked No. 43 in NCAA Division II.
GSW has placed multiple golfers on the PING All-Region team by GCAA in five of the last six seasons. This year's three recipients matches the program record set in 2019-20 for most in a season.
