AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern State University designated player/third baseman Cooper Watson was named the Peach Belt Conference softball Freshman of the Week on Monday by the league office.
Watson delivered a pair of game-winning home runs over the weekend PBC series against USC Beaufort. She provided the winning runs with a two-run homer in the opener against the Sand Sharks as GSW won 3-0 and blasted a three-run home run in the finale to give GSW a 4-2 lead in a game they would win 6-2. She finished 4-for-8 at the plate in the three-game set with six RBIs.
Watson reached base safely in six of the Lady Hurricanes seven games played last week and had an on-base percentage of .500 overall.
A native of Auburn, Ala., Watson currently ranks fourth in the PBC in both slugging percentage (.768) and OPS (1.285).
