AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern State University pitcher Pyper McCard was named the Peach Belt Conference softball Freshman of the Week for the second time this season on Monday afternoon by the league office.

 

McCard, a native of Ashburn, Ga., went 2-0 in the circle last week with a 0.58 earned run average over 12 innings. She pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout at Savannah State on Wednesday and held Lander University to one earned run in a complete-game win on Saturday, retiring the final seven Bearcats in order to seal the conference road victory.

 

McCard held opponents to a .152 batting average for the week and batters leading off an inning were 1-for-12 against the Tiftarea Academy alum.

 

The Lady Hurricanes have three of the last six PBC Freshman of the Week honorees, dating back to McCard's first award on March 3. Teammate Cooper Watson won the award last week.
