Perez's 19 Leads To Sweep of GC

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team lead throughout the entire night as they swept Georgia College 60-49 inside the Storm Dome Saturday evening. 

Mariya Trimble pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds while Lex Chatman posted a double-double as she currently leads the team with four. 

How It Happened: It was a slow start for both teams but three minutes into the game, Yasmin Perez knocked down a three and it was on after that. The Bobcats answered back but a three-point play by Perez started a short 7-0 run as GSW was up by nine. After cutting the score back down to five, Madison Johnson hit a quick shot followed by Chatman, who drained one from deep as the Lady Hurricanes led 18-8 going into the second. 

In the second quarter, GSW went up by as much as 12 points but a 6-0 run by GC cut the score down to three possessions midway through the half. However, GSW answered back during a slow second quarter as they took a 28-16 halftime lead. 

Jamesha Samuel drained one from deep in the opening minute of the third as GSW took their largest lead of the night, 33-18. GC responded with a 10-0 run that lasted a full five minutes as they cut the score down to seven points. The Bobcats was able to make it a two possession game but the Lady Hurricanes responded quickly as they took a seven point lead going into the final 10 minutes. 

The Bobcats opened the fourth with a 10-2 run that saw them one point shy of tieing the game 42-41 with 7:15 remaining. After a quick timeout by GSW (7-15, 3-13 PBC), Samuel spazzed with a quick layup followed by a triple as they extended the lead. With 1:55 remaining, GC (5-19, 2-14 PBC) cut the lead down to five points, 46-51. However, after fouling, the Lady Hurricanes was able to push the score up and take the sweep of GC. 

GSW led on the sheets too, holding a 51-45 rebound advantage while forcing 17 turnovers. The Lady Hurricanes drained 16-of-19 free throws for an 84.2 percentage while GC shot 64.3 percent from the line.  

Who Stood Out: Perez led with a team-high 19 points, seven boards and four steals as she stood perfect from the line. Chatman finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Trimble finished with eight points and 17 rebounds. 

GC was led by Jaycie Bowen and Christian Copeland, who finished with 12 points but Bowen finished with a double-double, adding 10 rebounds.
