Lady Hurricanes Falls To No. 15 UNG

DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team lead throughout the first quarter but they couldn't finish strong. They fell 73-48 on the road to No. 15 North Georgia in a midweek Peach Belt Conference game. 

How It Happened: UNG scored the first two points of the game but Daelyn Craig responded to tie the score just minutes into the game. Lex Chatman opened the lead with a three as they led, 5-2, with 8:44 remaining in the first quarter. On back-to-back possessions, UNG took the lead but a layup and made free throws by Jaleah Storr gave GSW (5-4, 3-3 PBC) the lead again. Both teams exchanged leads but the Lady Hurricanes eventually took a 15-14 lead going into the second. 

Back-to-back layups by A'Aliyah Clay pushed GSW to a three-point lead to open the second quarter. After a layup by Chatman, UNG (9-1, 6-1 PBC) took a 22-21 lead as Abbie Franklin scored twice with 7:15 remaining in the half. After a three minute scoring drought, UNG went on a 6-0 run before GSW scored again. The Nighthawks took a 33-26 lead going into halftime. 

Craig opened the third quarter with back-to-back shots as UNG tried to extend their lead. With 7:14 remaining in the third, UNG took their first double-digit lead, 41-30, and never looked back. With 3:03 remaining in the game, UNG took their biggest lead, 68-43, of the game on their way to victory. 

GSW shot their lowest (14.3 percent) from deep, draining just 2-of-14 while UNG went 6-of-24 for 25 percent. The Nighthawks also shot 39 percent while the Lady Hurricanes shot 30 percent from the field. UNG held a huge 51-38 rebound advantage over GSW. 

Who Stood Out: Criag led the Lady Hurricanes with 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists while Storr finished with 13 points and two assists. Chatman added nine points and seven rebounds. 

Abbie Franklin and Josie Earnhardt led UNG with 10 points each. Julianne Sutton finished eight eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
