Lady Hurricanes Drop Season Opener 3-0

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University women's soccer team opened the 2024 season with a 3-0 loss to Florida Southern College on Thursday morning at the Walden Soccer Complex on the campus of Columbus State University. The match was scoreless at the break, but Florida Southern scored early in the second half and eventually pulled away from the Lady Hurricanes.

GSW had a couple of scoring opportunities, but could not covert. Ellie Carrington led the Lady Hurricanes offense with three shots. Alana Beddow made three saves in each half for GSW, but surrendered two scores (47', 66') and a penalty kick goal (69') over the final 45 minutes.  

The Lady Hurricanes have a week to prepare for their home opener against Rollins College on Thursday at 7 p.m. The schools have met the past two seasons and both matches have ended in a scoreless draw.
