Women's Soccer Places Five on PBC Team of Academic Distinction

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference released its 2024 women's soccer Team of Academic Distinction presented by Barnes & Noble College this week. Georgia Southwestern State University juniors Lucia Bustamante and Karsen Winget along with sophomores Alana Beddow, Toni Clark and Maci Dunlap earned the recognition.

Bustamante, a psychology major from Alpharetta, Ga., holds a 3.66 grade point average. Winget, a criminal justice major from Macon, Ga., has a 3.662 GPA. Both Bustamante and Winget were named to the team last year.

Dunlap, an elementary education major from Warner Robins, Ga., carries a 3.945 GPA to lead a group of three first-time recipients. Clark, a nursing major from Lynn Haven, Fla., holds a 3.826 GPA. Beddow, an exercise science major from Savannah, Ga., has a 3.64 GPA. 

The team is a part of the PBC's larger initiative to celebrate the academic achievements of PBC student-athletes. 

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference sports communications professionals oversee the program.
