GSW Cross Country Opens Season at Cougar Invitational

The Georgia Southwestern State University Women's Cross Country team opened its 2007 season Saturday at the Fifth Annual Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State University. The Lady Hurricanes finished in 3rd place overall behind Columbus State and the University of West Georgia.

Leading the way for GSW was Whitney Brown, a senior and also a member of the Lady 'Canes soccer team, who finished the 5K distance in 11th place with a time of 21:53.59. Following close behind was the rest of the GSW pack -- Kelly Mathews (23:34.47), Ambur Humphrey (23:53.63), Emily Touchton (23:53.92), and Stevi Korczyk (23:55.92) -- finishing together in 21st through 24th place out of 33 total runners.

The Lady 'Canes will travel next to Augusta on September 22 to compete in the Augusta State Invitational.
