AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern cross country team finished in sixth place on Saturday at the school's inaugural 5K Remembrance Run in Americus. The 10-team event was held at Central Baptist Church.
Casi McDonald led the way again for GSW, finishing 24th of 78 participants with a time of 22:19.8.
Mollie McGowan (35th, 23:24.1), Becky Atkins (45th, 25:02.1) and Leady Cuellar (48th, 25:36.1) had top-50 times for GSW. Katy York followed closely behind in 59th (27:02.1).
With 20 points, Columbus State easily finished ahead of fellow Peach Belt Conference member Montevallo (51) for the team title. First-year NAIA program Young Harris finished third (80). Darton College and Flagler ended fourth and fifth, respectively.
Brittney Skiles from Columbus State crossed the finish line
first with a time of 18:53.4, followed by teammate Tanui Naomi at
19:39.9. Columbus State had five runners finish in the top
seven.
Through two races, the Lady Hurricanes have already finished ahead
of more schools than they did all of last season.
Southwestern heads to Albany on Saturday, Sept. 25 for the
Darton Invitational beginning at 9 a.m.
