Improvements aplenty at Foothills Invite

OXFORD, Ala. - The Georgia Southwestern cross country team saw four of its top five runners post their best times of 2011 at Saturday's Sixth Annual Foothills Invitational. Freshman Micah Bucher led the Lady Hurricanes on the 5k course for the first time in her collegiate career.

Bucher shaved 43 seconds off her previous high (22:30 on 9/10 at the GSW Remembrance Run) to finish with a 21:47. Sophomore Lisa Espino took second for the Lady 'Canes in a time of 22:06, which was four seconds ahead of her fastest pace set last week in Albany.

Despite a nagging toe injury, sophomore Mollie McGowan crossed the line nearly a minute ahead of her best time with a 22:46 on Saturday.

Sophomore Kelsey Baker finished a spot behind McGowan, both on the team and in the overall standings with her 23:39 and senior Katy York broke her season-best by 50 seconds with a time of 23:50.

With 32 points, Emory finished ahead of host Jacksonville State (56) for the team title.

Giselle Slotboom from Jacksonville State crossed the finish line first with a time of 17:31.

The Lady Hurricanes return to action Oct. 22 when they head to Aiken, S.C. for the Peach Belt Conference Championships.
