Hurricanes finish 10th at PBC Championships

AIKEN, S.C. - Members of the Georgia Southwestern women's cross country team were running in packs at the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday morning at Pacer Path on the campus of USC Aiken. GSW saw its top two runners finish back-to-back and its next three finish in sequential order as the Lady 'Canes finished 10th at the year-end event. 

Sophomore Lisa Espino led the Lady Hurricanes on the 6k course with a 27:59 time. Espino paced GSW in four of five meets this fall and finished 53rd on Saturday.

On her heels, and one place behind in the final tally, freshman Micah Bucher crossed the line in 28:18. Bucher led GSW two weeks ago at the Foothills Invitational.

In the next pack, GSW finished back-to-back-to-back with sophomore Kelsey Baker (28:55), sophomore Mollie McGowan (29:24) and senior Katy York (29:49) taking slots 57-59. 

Senior Leady Cuellar ended her GSW career with a 30:30 time (64th place) and sophomore Lauren Brown was clocked at 31:40 (67th).

With 44 points, Montevallo finished ahead of Clayton State (74) for the team title. 

Haley Evans from Montevallo was the first runner to cross the finish line with a time of 23:16, 32 seconds ahead Taylor Strekel from Flagler.
