Lady 'Canes Finish 4th At Gem Of The Hills

OXFORD, Ala. - The Georgia Southwestern cross country team finished in fourth place out of nine teams at the Gem of the Hills Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State University on Saturday morning. Jessi Young paced the Lady Hurricanes by finishing the 5K course in 19:51 for 10th place out of 65 competitors.

Lisa Espino crossed the finish line second for GSW with a time of 21:17, good for 26th place, while Linda Esparza was the third GSW runner across the line in 21:54. Daria Woods finished 37th overall by finishing in 22:25 and Raven Martin took 41st in 22:46. Mikaela Shimko posted a time of 24:33.

With 29 points, Alabama-Huntsville edged out Columbus State (32) for the team title. 

Vicky Winslow from Alabama-Huntsville crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 17:40.05.

The invite was divided into two divisions with four NCAA Division I teams participating in one group and the remaining nine schools rounding out the second field. Young placed 23rd out of the entire 99-participant field and finished ahead of 21 NCAA Division I runners.

The Lady Hurricanes return to action Friday when they head to West Point for the Point Invite hosted by Point University.
