Lady 'Canes Take 2nd In First Race

Americus, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern cross country team competed in their first meet on Saturday at the Remembrance Run hosted by GSW. The Lady Hurricanes finished in 2nd place out of five teams.

Freshman Victoria Hickom captured 5th overall with a time of 21:20.73 finishing first for the Lady Hurricanes and setting a new personal record.

Ashleigh Owens was the next Lady Hurricane to finish in 8th place (21:40.67). Not too far behind, Shelby Parsekian finished in 12th place (22:22.46) and finishing 13th  was Madison Sauls (22:26.76).

Rounding out the field for the Lady Hurricanes was Daria Woods finishing in 25th place (23:53.81).

Hickson, Owens, Parsekian and Sauls all received medals for placing in the top 15.

"It was a very exciting race to watch," comments Coach Skiles. "I was very happy with all the girls and they were very happy with their performances as well."

The Lady Hurricanes finished in 2nd place with a total of 61 points. There were a total of 5 teams and 41 runners. Columbus State finished 1st with a total of 17 points.

The team will be back in action on Saturday, September 20th as they travel to Fort Gordon, Ga. for the GRU Jaguar Cross Country Invite. This will be the Lady Hurricanes first 6k of the season. The runs are expected to begin at 8:50 a.m.
