Lady 'Canes Finish 11th Of 12 At PBC Championships

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern women's cross country team finished 11th out of 12 teams at the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday morning at Fort Gordon. Ashleigh Owens paced the Lady Hurricanes by finishing the 6K course in 24:26 for 57th place out of 101 competitors.

Lauren Ard crossed the finish line second for GSW with a time of 24:31, to finish two slots behind Owens at 59th. Daria Woods was the third GSW runner across the line. She took 63rd with a time of 24:38. Victoria Hickom finished 73rd overall in 25:16. Shelby Parsekian grabbed the 81st spot with a time of 25:53. Anna Kate Shaw followed in 27:03 and Anneliese Leahy posted a time of 27:44.

Katie Nelson from Montevallo crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 21:24.

UM place four runners in the top five and finished with 24 points, tied for the lowest point total ever in a PBC race. UM finished ahead of second-place North Georgia by 62 points, the largest margin of victory in PBC history.

The Lady Hurricanes return to action Nov. 22, when they travel to Montevallo to compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship.
