Season Comes To Close At Southeast Regional

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Georgia Southwestern women's cross country team made its second-ever appearance at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on Saturday and finished in 23rd place out of 26 teams. Freshman Lauren Ard led the Lady Hurricanes with a time of 25:24 on the 6k course.

Ard finished 90th overall out of 185 competitors. Victoria Hickom crossed the finish line second for Southwestern with a time of 26:08, good for 114th place. Ashleigh Owens was the third Lady Hurricane to cross the line, posting a time of 26:23.

Daria Woods finished in 27:01 for 139th place. Shelby Pareskian took 151st in 27:36 and Anneliese Leahy posted a time of 28:57.

Woods, a sophomore, was the only GSW runner who had participated in regionals heading into Saturday's race as the rest of the Southwestern roster consists of freshmen.

With 60 points, Peach Belt Conference champions and regional host Montevallo finished ahead of North Georgia (90), for the team title.  The PBC placed three teams in the top five of the regional.

Catie Byrd from Queens University of Charlotte crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 21:56.
