Don't Call It A Comeback

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team got their first win of the 2023 season in a come-from-behind victory defeating Shorter University 4-3 on Wednesday night.

GSW drew first blood in the match on a Chris Salamatou goal at the 21-minute mark of the first period, giving the Canes the 1-0 lead. The lead was short-lived due to a Shorter goal that tied the game at one in the first half.

The Hawks gained momentum in the second half they scored two goals and had a 3-1 lead over the Canes with 17 minutes remaining in the match. GSW never gave up and thanks to two Lucas Bedleg goals the Canes were the victors in an incredible comeback performance against the Hawks who beat the Canes 6-0 in their prior meeting.

Sophomore forward Lucas Bedleg collected two goals in the second giving the Canes the win he has three goals on the season leading the team in that category.

Salamatou keeps performing for the Canes with his goal tonight. He is now in sole possession of second place in school history in goals scored for his career and needs 1o more to own the school record.

GSW will stay on the road to face off against Middle Georgia State at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday from Nesmith Field.
