Barber arrives to Americus after helping lead the Gardner-Webb University Running Bulldogs to their most successful season in NCAA Division I program history as the associate head coach, along with recent stops at Milligan University as head coach and Auburn Montgomery as assistant coach.
From 2023 to 2024, in just two seasons, the staff and players at Gardner-Webb achieved a season for the history books. The team achieved a number of program firsts by winning the first Big South Conference Championship, first 10-win season, first outright NCAA tournament win, highest Big South regular season finish (2nd), first unbeaten Big South Conference season record (8-0-2), highest ever end of season NCAA DI RPI ranking (#34), highest ever program end of season national ranking (#23 Top Draw Soccer) and the best ever program single season record finishing 13-4-3 overall. Their season was eventually ended by #3 Denver who went onto the College Cup (Final 4). During his two seasons with Running Bulldogs, the staff also achieved wins over a number of well established programs such as Wake Forest, Oregon State, South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, #11 High Point and a tie with #8 James Madison.
In the 2022 season, as a first year Head Coach of Milligan University, Barber was able to produce a successful season on the field. After winning the Appalachian Athletic regular season title (9-1-3), he was named AAC Coach of the Year and the team appeared in the NAIA National Tournament. This also included a mid-season unbeaten streak of 15 games and a final overall season record of 10-3-7.
In the first full season post COVID, as assistant coach, Barber helped AUM reach the NCAA DII National Tournament Elite 8 in just their second full season as a competitive DII member. Their national tournament run included wins away at #9 Tampa and #1 Young Harris before eventually falling to Nova Southeastern. AUM finished runners up in the GSC with a record of 7-2-2 and finished the season overall 11-5-4 with a #8 final national ranking.
He also has NCAA Division I experience as an assistant coach serving three seasons with Georgia Southern University in the Sun Belt Conference and two seasons with Temple University in the American Athletic Conference.
As a student-athlete, he was an NCAA Division II player with powerhouse South-East Super Region programs Limestone & Florida Tech, competed in four seasons at the USL2 level and graduated from Florida Tech in 2014 majoring in Business Administration.
