  • Josh McDonald to Lead GSW Baseball

    Josh McDonald is returning to where his collegiate baseball career began. At a press conference Friday afternoon, Georgia Southwestern State University Athletic Director Mike Leeder introduced McDonald as the Hurricanes head baseball coach. McDonald played at Georgia Southwestern from 2001-06.
  • GSW Announces Change in Baseball Leadership

    "We would like to thank Coach Bryan McLain for his many years of service at Georgia Southwestern and wish him the best," Leeder said. A nationwide search for the next head coach will begin immediately. GSW posted a 10-35 record this spring with a mark of 5-25 in the Peach Belt Conference. McLain completed his 14th season at the helm for the Hurricanes in 2018 and his 23rd year as a member of the coaching staff. Under his leadership, GSW had an overall record of 274-404 (.404 winning percentage) and a Peach Belt record of 92-236 (.280).
  • Weekend Recap: Jones Ends Career Swinging; Canes Swept at UNCP

    The University of North Carolina Pembroke swept a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against GSW over the weekend at Sammy Cox Field to wrap up the 2018 regular season. UNCP took the opener in Saturday's doubleheader, 16-7, and won the nightcap, 13-7. On Sunday, the Braves cruised to an 11-2 victory. Senior Jared Jones ended his collegiate career on a high note as he led Hurricane batters with nine hits in the series. Jones finished 9-for-12 (.750) with a pair of walks, scored twice and drove in two runs. 
  • Martin & Hough Go Deep, Clark Shines In Non-Conference Finale

    A six-run fourth inning that included home runs by Jonathan Martin and Bradley Hough propelled the Georgia Southwestern State University baseball team to a 10-4 victory over Tuskegee University Tuesday evening at Paterson Field. Freshman relief pitcher Jared Donalson earned his first collegiate victory (1-0) after four innings on the hill.
  • Hurricanes Drop Midweek Game At Albany State

    Every time the GSW baseball team scored Wednesday evening, Albany State University had an answer in a 6-5 loss at the ASU West Campus Field. Jared Jones went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and an RBI to record his third three-hit game of the spring. Andy Moore added two hits and a pair of RBIs. Jason Baita and Josh Logan collected two hits apiece and both scored a run. GSW out-hit Albany State 12-8.
  • GSW Hough-ed And Puffed And Extinguished The Blazers
    March 27, 2018
    Bradley Hough delivered a two-out, two-run single in the ninth inning to lift the GSW baseball team past Valdosta State, 5-4, Tuesday evening at Billy Grant Field to complete a season sweep of the Blazers. Hough drove in four of the Hurricanes five runs in the game as he added a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Andrew Patrick picked up his first win by holding VSU scoreless for the final 1 2/3 innings. He struck out two of the five batters he faced.
  • Middle Georgia Scores Nine Unanswered Runs, Defeats GSW, 11-6

    Middle Georgia scored nine unanswered runs Wednesday evening to rally from a four-run deficit and hand Georgia Southwestern an 11-6 loss at Hurricane Stadium. Andy Moore and Jacob Harrell recorded two hits apiece to lead the Hurricanes. Moore added a pair of RBIs.
  • Series Wrap Up: Hurricanes Drop Final Two Against USCA

    The GSW baseball team dropped the final two games of its weekend Peach Belt Conference series against USC Aiken at Hurricane Stadium. After taking the opener on Friday, GSW lost Game 2, 5-4, on Saturday and the rubber game, 8-1, on Sunday.

    The GSW baseball team picked up its first Peach Belt Conference win of the season by defeating the USC Aiken, 5-1, Friday evening at Hurricane Stadium. The win was big on many levels for the GSW program as the Hurricanes had one win in the last 17 meetings with USC Aiken heading into Friday's matchup and, despite being 5-8 all-time against the Pacers at Hurricane Stadium, GSW's last win at home against USCA came in 2009.
  • Weekend Recap: Strong Starting Pitching Not Enough At #25 Flagler

    GSW was swept in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series at 25th-ranked Flagler College over the weekend. Flagler won the opener at Drysdale Field on Saturday, 5-3, followed with a 4-2 walk-off win in the doubleheader nightcap and closed out the series on Sunday with an 8-2 victory. Andy Moore led GSW at the plate over the weekend with five hits. Jared Jones and Jason Baita collected four hits apiece and both were walked twice. Starting pitcher Kyle Britt was phenomenal on the hill in Game 2 for the Hurricanes as he held the Saints to one run over eight innings.
  • Weekend Recap: Walk-Off Homer Completes Sweep For UNG

    GSW was swept in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series at North Georgia over the weekend. UNG won the opener Saturday, 7-1, followed with a 17-4 win and capped the series off with a three-run, walk-off home run in the finale on Sunday to win, 5-3. Jared Jones and Josh Logan led GSW at the plate over the series as both went 4-for-10. Jones belted two home runs and drove in four runs.
  • Britt Legit In Win, Gets Help From Mr. Jones

    GSW defeated Valdosta State University, 4-3, Wednesday evening at Hurricane Stadium. The Hurricanes snapped a nine-game losing skid to improve to 3-9 this spring while Valdosta State lost its third straight game to dip to 6-9. GSW has won three of its last four homes games against the Blazers.

    The good news was that GSW held Albany State scoreless in eight of the nine innings played Tuesday evening. The bad news was that the seven runs Albany State scored in the seventh inning was enough to hand GSW a 7-4 loss at Hurricane Stadium.
  • Bats Silenced In Loss To Auburn Montgomery

    GSW was held to three hits in a 7-0 loss to Auburn University at Montgomery on Tuesday evening at Hurricane Stadium. Stewart Tyler (0-1) took the loss in his first start for the Hurricanes. Tyler threw 3 1/3 innings, allowed four hits and two runs, walked two and struck out four. Josh Logan went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and a walk for the Hurricanes. A.J. Hayes threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Weekend Recap: Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader to Open Season

    GSW baseball swept Saturday's season-opening doubleheader against Wright State University-Lake Campus at Hurricane Stadium, 3-1 in the opener and 4-3 in the nightcap. GSW pitchers racked up 26 strikeouts and walked only four over the two games. Offensively, the Hurricanes struggled as freshman Tyler Skelton and senior Josh Logan were the only players to collect multiple hits. Both finished the day with two.
  • Hurricanes Picked 10th in Peach Belt Preseason Poll

    The GSW baseball team is projected to finish 10th in a poll of the league's coaches released Friday.
