    Georgia Southwestern golfer Craig Gibson has qualified for the Canadian Amateur Championship for the second consecutive year. Gibson, a native of Brooks, Alberta, finished in eighth at the qualifying tournament at Stony Point Country Club.

    Georgia Southwestern standout Nate Gahman shot a final round 3-over-par 73 on Sunday at Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta to finish the 90th annual Georgia Amateur Championship tied for 32nd place with a four-day total of 294.
  • GSW golfers fare well in summer qualifiers

    Georgia Southwestern golfers Nate Gahman and J.P. Griffin qualified for the 2011 Georgia Amateur Championship on Friday morning with scores of 69 and 72, respectively, at Doublegate Country Club in Albany. Gahman's 3-under par round earned medalist honors at the 44-player event. Senior Chris Hall and Hurricane head coach Andrew Danna both qualified for the YAMAHA Atlanta Open Georgia PGA tournament earlier this week.

    The Georgia Southwestern men's golf team entered Tuesday's final round of the Peach Belt Conference Championship tournament at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in ninth place out of 11 schools. The Hurricanes finished the day in the same slot after matching its first round score of 315.

Craig Gibson paced the 'Canes with a 12th-place individual finish and a final score of 2-under at the par-72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club.

    The Georgia Southwestern golf team fired its lowest round in five years of NCAA play, a 7-under 281, to grab a six-stroke lead after Day 1 at the Lander Bearcat Golf Classic in Greenwood, S.C. on Monday. Craig Gibson paced the 'Canes with the low score of the 90-player field, a 5-under 67.

    The collegiate golf community has taken notice of Georgia Southwestern's accomplishments this spring, including last week's performance at the Don Benbow Invitational where GSW finished ahead of eight NCAA Division I schools, as the Hurricanes received votes in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches’ Poll.

    As the lone NCAA Division II program in a tournament field full of Division I schools, the Georgia Southwestern golf team held its own, finishing third on Tuesday at the 11-team Don Benbow Invitational played at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. The Hurricanes finished ahead eight of D-I programs, including: Cleveland State, Wisconsin Green-Bay, Bradley, Creighton, Florida A&M, Butler, Alabama State and Eastern Illinois.

    The Georgia Southwestern golf team moved up one spot on Tuesday from its Day 1 position to finish eighth at the 14-team Argonaut Invitational played at Pensacola Country Club. Nate Gahman shot a final-round 1-over 73 for the Hurricanes to finish 1-over for the 54-hole tournament and remain tied for sixth out of 74 participants.

Nate Gahman shot even par for the day to lead the Hurricanes and is tied for sixth out of 74 participants.

Griffin fired a tournament-low 66 in the second round of the Aflac/Cougar Invitational at the Country Club of Columbus on Monday afternoon to finish the day in second place out of 75 golfers with a 2-under 140. The GSW team shot a two-round 605, finishing 12th out of 14 teams in its final match of the fall.

    The Georgia Southwestern golf team finished tied for 10th out of 15 teams at the rain-shortened Jay Jennison Memorial tournament in St. Augustine, Fla. on Tuesday. Play was suspended Monday at the Palencia Club due to inclement weather and GSW finished Round 1 on Tuesday morning, along with the final round. Nate Gahman posted a team-best 149 (77-72), good enough for a 13th-place finish in the 79-player field.

    Former Hurricane standout Adam McKenney earned an invite to play in the Georgia PGA's Georgia Open after firing a 3-under par (69) qualifying round at Orchard Hills Golf Club in Newnan last week. GSW head golf coach Andrew Danna was a first alternate for the Open after shooting a 3-over (74) in his qualifiying round at Wilmington Island Club near Savannah. --UPDATE 7/30 -- Coach Danna will be joining McKenney in the tournament field.
