  • Saving Their Best For Last; Owens Exits On Top

    The women's cross country team finished 9th of 11 teams at the Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted Saturday morning in Fort Benning. Ashleigh Owens set a new GSW cross country 5K record, breaking her own mark set Sept. 23, completing the course in course in 19:09.1. Owens shattered the previous pace by 18.32 seconds. She wasn't the only Lady Hurricane to wrap up her season on a high note. All seven members of the team ran season-best times in the finale.
  • Lady Hurricanes Mix It Up At Florida State Invitational

    GSW Women's Cross Country finished 11th of 15 teams in the small school division of the Florida State University Invitational held Friday morning at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. Ashleigh Owens completed the 5K course in 20:19.8 for GSW, the sixth fastest time in program history, to place 30th out of 116 competitors.The FSU Invitational is the oldest collegiate cross country meet in Florida, dating to its inception in 1972, but this is the ninth season of racing at Apalachee Regional Park which will be the host site for the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. This is the first time GSW has competed in the event which included a large school division consisting of NCAA Division I teams from Florida State, Jacksonville University, the University of Florida, Florida A&M, the University of South Florida and Jacksonville State University. Runners in both divisions raced against each other at the same time, although results were calculated based on the division a school was placed.

    The Lady Hurricanes return four of their top five runners from a year ago, including senior Ashleigh Owens, who holds three of the eight fastest 5K times in program history and led GSW at the conference championships last fall. Junior Katherine McGarr turned in a pair of Top 10 finishes in 2016.
