    The Georgia Southwestern baseball team cracked the top 30 of the nations top baseball programs for the first time this season when it was ranked 30th in the latest 2011 Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll.

    Former Georgia Southwestern third baseman Zack Stanton signed a contract to play professionally for the Frontier League’s Evansville (Ind.) Otters on Monday (June 14). He made his debut Monday evening for the Otters and contributed immediately going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored as Evansville downed Gateway 10-6.

    Georgia Southwestern State University baseball players Jared Allen, Bud Long, Tyler Daniel and Jody Sellars have been named to the 2010 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

    The Georgia Southwestern baseball team's "Cinderella" run at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament came to an end Sunday evening in the championship game as the 10th-ranked Cougars from Columbus State defeated the Hurricanes, 6-5, at at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The 'Canes were nine outs away from the university's first trip to the NCAA Division II tournament (in any sport), leading 4-3 after six innings of play. It was a bad time for GSW's perfect record (26-0) - with the lead after six this season - to be snapped.
