    GSW guard R.J. Sessions has been named Second Team All Peach Belt Conference as announced by the league Thursday.
  • Season Ends In PBC Quarters

    The men's basketball season came to a close Wednesday evening after a 70-54 loss in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament against UNC Pembroke in the English E. Jones Center. GSW finishes its campaign with a 13-14 overall record, a six-win improvement for second-year head coach Ben Hicks.

    John Mason scored a career-high 21 points and R.J. Sessions added 18 as GSW ran past the Nighthawks in the opener of the UNG Convocation Center.

    Clayton State's Nate Powell hit a pull-up jumper from just inside the lane with 3.4 seconds left to hand GSW a 63-61 loss Wednesday evening in The Loch. Dajion Macklien turned in one of his best performances of the season, leading the Hurricanes with 15 points behind 6 of 9 shooting. He grabbed five rebounds, dished five assists and only turned the ball over once in 36 minutes of action. 
  • Second Half Heartache

    GSW suffered its first lost of the season when leading at halftime (8-1) after fading in the second half of a 64-53 loss Wednesday evening against Flagler College in the Storm Dome. The 53 points is Georgia Southwestern's lowest total in a game this year. Andre Statam led all scorers with 20 points.
  • Lander Pulls Away Late To Defeat GSW

    Lander made 10 second-half 3-pointers and outscored Georgia Southwestern by nine points over the final four and a half minutes to pull away and hand the Hurricanes a 92-79 loss Wednesday evening in Finis Horne Arena. Andre Statam finished with 22 points behind 7-of-8 shooting to lead GSW. R.J. Sessions scored 20 points and dished out four assists. John Mason grabbed a team-high six rebounds and chipped in 10 points.
  • Curse Of The Convocation Center Continues

    The USC Aiken Convocation Center has not been kind to GSW men's basketball. The Hurricanes dropped to 0-11 all-time in the building after USCA defeated the Hurricanes, 84-69, on Saturday afternoon. Devin Watson and R.J. Sessions scored 15 points apiece to lead GSW. Hasaan Buggs scored 14 points, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and blocked three shots.
  • 3-Point Ambush

    GSW drained a season-high 15 shots from behind the arc to pull away from Columbus State for a 95-78 win Wednesday evening in the Lumpkin Center and complete a season sweep of the Cougars. GSW posted its most accurate 3-point shooting night in a Peach Belt Conference game in program history by connecting on 15 of 25 from long range (60 percent).
  • Watson Super As Canes Bowl Through Young Harris

    Devin Watson made 8 of 11 shots and scored a game-high 20 points to lead GSW to a season sweep of Young Harris with a 74-72 win in the Storm Dome on Sunday afternoon. Hasaan Buggs posted his ninth double-double of the season for the Hurricanes and couldn't have been much more efficient on the offensive end, connecting on 8-of-10 shots, in his 17-point performance. He led all players in rebounds (12), steals (5) and blocks (4). It was the first time a GSW player had five steals in a game since Darius Redding on Dec. 1, 2014.
  • Statam Scores 19 in Second Half; Canes Lose In Crazy Finish

    Andre Statam scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half to rally the Hurricanes back from an 11-point deficit, but a 3-pointer from teammate R.J. Sessions in the closing seconds caught too much iron and Georgia College handed the Hurricanes a 65-64 Peach Belt Conference loss on Wednesday in the Centennial Center.

    The men's basketball team came all the way back from 16 points down to take the lead with 5:40 to play only to have Clayton State spoil the ending and hand the Hurricanes a 75-69 loss on Wednesday evening in the Storm Dome. Hasaan Buggs scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to post his eighth double-double of the season and lead GSW.
  • Roller Coaster Ride Continues In Augusta

    The men's basketball team fell behind early and couldn't make key stops in the second half to pull within Augusta on Saturday afternoon in an 87-69 Peach Belt Conference setback in the Christenberry Fieldhouse. R.J. Sessions scored 15 consecutive points midway through the second half for GSW behind 6-of-6 shooting but the Hurricanes were unable to shave anything off their 10-point deficit during that span. Sessions scored 19 over the final 20 minutes and finished with 25 points for the game. After winning five straight conference games, their longest streak in five years, the Hurricanes have lost by an average of 20 points per game over this three-game skid.
  • Defense Disappoints In Second Half At Flagler
    January 18, 2018
    GSW couldn't slow down the Flagler offense in the second half of their Thursday night tilt and suffered an 88-67 setback in the Flagler Gymnasium. Flagler made 19 of 28 shots (67.9 percent) over the final 20 minutes to pull away from GSW. The Hurricanes dropped back-to-back games for the second time this season to fall to 9-5 overall and 5-5 in the Peach Belt while Flagler won its second straight game to improve to 6-8, 3-7 in the PBC.
  • Conference Leader Shuts Down GSW In 2nd Half, Snaps Win Streak

    The GSW men saw their five-game win streak snapped by UNC Pembroke, 78-57, Monday afternoon in the Storm Dome. Despite playing the Peach Belt Conference leaders even for the opening 20 minutes, GSW shooters went ice cold in the second half and were held to 20 percent shooting and 20 points. It was the Hurricanes first loss in 27 days when they lost at UNC Pembroke, 83-71.
  • Canes Fuel Up At The QT, Win 5th Straight

    Quenten Taylor scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the second half for GSW to thwart any thoughts of a comeback by Francis Marion in the Storm Dome on Saturday afternoon and guide the Hurricanes to a 93-71 victory. Hasaan Buggs posted his sixth consecutive double-double and Andre Statam turned in a 23-point effort to help GSW avenge a 20-point loss to the Patriots earlier this season. The Hurricanes improved to 9-3 overall and picked up their fifth straight Peach Belt Conference win (5-3) while Francis Marion suffered its fourth loss in five games and fell to 9-4, 4-4 in the PBC. The last time the Hurricanes won five conference games in a row was during the 2012-13 season.
  • Cougars Can't Swat Away Buggs

    Hasaan Buggs crawled all over Columbus State in the Storm Dome on Wednesday evening as he posted his fifth consecutive double-double and tied a program record with six blocks to lead GSW to an 83-72 victory. The Hurricanes improved to 8-3 overall and picked up their fourth straight Peach Belt Conference win (4-3) while Columbus State suffered its fourth loss in five games and fell to 3-7, 3-4 in the PBC.

Sessions scored six of his game-high 21 points in overtime, including a clutch 3-pointer with 34 seconds remaining, to lift GSW men's basketball past Young Harris College, 88-82, Saturday afternoon in the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center. The Hurricanes improved to 7-3 overall and picked up their third consecutive Peach Belt Conference win (3-3).

    Hasaan Buggs posted his third straight double-double while Andre Statam scored a team-high 22 points to lead GSW past Georgia College in overtime, 85-82, Wednesday evening in the Storm Dome. The Hurricanes improved to 6-3 overall and picked up their second consecutive Peach Belt Conference win (2-3) while Georgia College fell to 7-4, 3-2 in the PBC.

The Hurricanes improved to 5-3 overall and picked up their first Peach Belt Conference win (1-3) while Lander fell to 5-6, 1-4 in the PBC.

    The men's basketball team received a vote in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division II poll released Tuesday afternoon. GSW is one of two Peach Belt Conference schools currently receiving at least one vote in the poll.
  • Balanced Attack Helps Hurricanes Improve to 2-0

    The men's basketball utilized a balanced attack on offense with four players scoring in double figures to defeat Fort Valley State, 65-52, Tuesday evening in the Storm Dome. The Hurricanes improved their record to 2-0. Hasaan Buggs made 5 of 10 shots, finished with 11 points and led the team in rebounds (7) and assists (4). Andre Statam added 12 points and six rebounds. R.J. Sessions scored 12 points and Devin Watson chipped in 11. John Mason and Dajion Macklien both connected on 2 of 3 from long range to help the Hurricanes off the bench.
  • Big Second Half Lifts GSW to Victory in Opener

    Sparked by 52 second half points, the GSW men's basketball team pulled away from Albany State University for an 81-72 season-opening win at the West Campus Arena Wednesday evening. R.J. Sessions not only led all scorers with 30 points, but pulled down a game-high eight rebounds as well. He was a sizzling 5-for-5 from beyond the arc in the second half and accounted for 21 of the Hurricanes 52 points over the final 20 minutes. Andre Statam finished with 20 points while connecting on all seven of his free throw attempts. Statam and Devin Watson led GSW with four assists apiece.
